Nevada, who now joins the thirty-three other states and the District of Columbia, is the latest state to receive a waiver from the U.S. Department of Education, granting the state flexibility from many provisions of No Child Left Behind. Unique to Nevada is that their waiver is conditional for one year. The state must finalize their school rating system before they can apply for a waiver for the 2013-14 school year.
The approved waiver application can be found here. Highlights of Nevada’s waiver application can be read here. Any of the thirteen states that have not yet applied for a waiver can still apply by September 6, 2012.
