Budget woes have been impacting school districts across the nation, and principals are seeing firsthand the effects cuts and reductions have had on teachers and students. Our September/October My Two Cents question addresses this issue: What’s been the impact of state budget cuts on your school?

In addition to the responses printed in Principal magazine, we received this:

We used instructional assistants to help supervise students while teachers collaborated and to run our Response to Intervention Program. [However], several classrooms were left without instructional assistants. This caused additional stress for the primary-grade teachers whose schedules are highly impacted by the amount of assessments required of them. We are fortunate to have an increase in parent volunteers, which gives some relief to the teachers.
