NAESP Member Kim J. Tierney Meets with U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan in Washington, D.C. to Launch Principals at ED Initiative

Principal Kim Tierney from Denver Elementary School in Iowa joined a group of educators and met with Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and other senior U.S. Department of Education officials January 20 for a full day of learning and networking as part of the new Principals at ED effort to build communication.

Tierney, who was named the 2014 Iowa Elementary Principal of The Year by School Administrators of Iowa, was also named to the NAESP’s 2014 class of National Distinguished Principals. She represented NAESP at the event which brings principals from across the country to the Education Department to learn more about the federal role in education.

She met with agency senior staff and spent time with leaders from the offices of early learning, English language learners, special education and educational technology. The day ended with a roundtable discussion with Secretary Duncan and Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education Deb Delisle.
