NAESP Saddened by News of Indiana Principal’s Tragic Sacrifice

NAESP was deeply saddened to learn about the loss of Susan Jordan, principal of Amy Beverland Elementary School in Indianapolis, who was struck by a bus in a heroic effort to protect the lives of her students. Our sincerest condolences are with Jordan’s family, school, and community that value her so deeply.

It has been clear in the days following this tragic event that she will be remembered not only for her sacrifice, but also for her committed service as principal for 22 years of Amy Beverland Elementary. This was made evident in a special video created last year by students, teachers, and parents demonstrating their gratitude for her constant dedication. And this week, community members have already donated as many as 2,400 books as part of a book drive to support her love of reading.

Lawrence Township School District’s website has more information on ways to contribute. You can visit the following sites to make a donation in honor of Susan Jordan’s life and service as a principal:

  • The Susan Jordan Memorial Fund has been created in her honor by the Lawrence Township School Foundation. The fund will be working with the family to determine the best way to honor Susan Jordan’s memory.
  • A GoFundMe page has been created to accept donations for the Jordan Family Education Fund, seeking to benefit the continuing education of Jordan’s four grandchildren.
  • Jordan’s family has also requested that donations be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
