Principals Join President to Commend Outstanding Teachers

Principals joined President Obama today to honor outstanding teachers. The president welcomed finalists for the 63rd annual 2015 National Teacher of the Year award during a White House ceremony. A delegation from NAESP, including President Mark J. White, was in attendance.

Obama was eager to praise the finalists for their dedication. “I want to thank all the teachers who are here today for your outstanding contributions to the life of our nation,” he said. “We couldn’t be prouder of you.”

The president commended all the finalists for their ability to educate and inspire, and presented the award to this year’s National Teacher of the Year, Shanna Peeples. Peeples teaches English at Palo Duro High School in Amarillo, Texas.

The Council of Chief State School Officers sponsors the National Teacher of the Year program, and NAESP is one of 15 organizations on the award’s selection committee.
