Alexandria, VA—May 23, 2011—Marion E. Whitfield, principal of Kodak Park School No. 41 in Rochester, New York, was recently elected to the board of directors of the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP). Gail Connelly, NAESP’s executive director, announced the election results from the Association’s headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia.

Whitfield begins her three-year term as director of Zone 2 on July 1. She will represent principals in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.

“Working in the capacity of Zone Director will allow me the opportunity to support the principles, practices, and procedures of school administration in my area, while increasing my effectiveness to bringing such supports to my
zone,” Whitfield said.

Whitfield has been a member of NAESP since 2010 and a member of both the Association of Supervisors & Administrators of Rochester and the School Administrators Association of New York State since 2006.

Whitfield began her education career in 1994 as a teacher at Theodore Roosevelt School. After serving as lead teacher and as an education specialist, Whitfield became vice principal of Nathaniel Rochester Community School in 2006 and assistant principal of Mary McLeod School No. 45 in 2009 before assuming her current position as principal of Kodak Park School No. 41, which she has held since 2010. 

Whitfield earned a B.S. in English and a M.L.S. in education from the State University of New York at Brockport and an M.S. in educational administration from St. John Fisher College.
