Alexandria, VA—May 23, 2011—Mark Terry, principal of Eubanks Intermediate School in Southlake, Texas, was recently elected president-elect to the Board of Directors of the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP). Gail Connelly, NAESP’s executive director, announced the appointment from the Association’s headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. Terry will begin as president-elect on July 1 and will assume the presidency one year later.
“A new generation of educators is preparing to lead our students into the future,” Terry said. “Increasing and strengthening the relevance of our organization to new generations is paramount to my service.”
Terry has been a member of NAESP since 1993, serving on its Board of Directors since 2007. Terry has also been a representative in NAESP’s Delegate Assembly (1995-2010), and participated in NAESP’s Federal Relations Conference (2005-2011). A member of the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA) since 1983, Terry has served as that organization’s president (2005-2006) and on its executive committee (2001-present).
In 2005, Terry was recognized by Texas School Business magazine as the Educator of the Month and in 2006, Terry was presented the TEPSA Presidential Service Award. He received the Carroll Independent School District True to the Core Award in 2008, the TEPSA Student Council Leadership Award in 2009, and the NAESP Outstanding Service Award in 2010.
Terry began his education career in 1980 as an elementary teacher at Dunn Elementary School. He served as assistant principal of Lamar High School (1987-1990) and Dunn Elementary School and Miller Elementary School (1983-1987). Terry was principal of Weldon Intermediate School from 1993 to 1995 and principal of Durham Elementary & Intermediate School from 1995 to 2001 before he assumed the principalship of Eubanks Intermediate School, a position he has held since 2001.
Terry earned a B.A. in history and elementary education from the University of Texas at Arlington and a M.Ed. in public school administration from North Texas State University.
