Has the educational system tacitly engaged in perpetuating the “school to prison pipeline?” This session will deconstruct discipline of African-American students and provide strategies to cultivate restorative practices. A paradigm shift from discipline and punish to repair and restore will be emphasized to lead to increased levels of student achievement.
A School-Wide Collaborative Approach to Improve Student Behavior and Attendance

Participants learn how to improve student attendance and decrease office referrals by acquiring tools such as protocols and parent communication techniques. The presenter shares how over a three-year period a school had a statistically significant improvement in student attendance and a nearly 50% reduction in office behavioral referrals.
